Danae had to write her own version of "The Lion and the Mouse," illustrating the fact that small creatures/people can also play an important part in helping others. I think she did fantastic. I'm still working with her piece by piece as she goes through the IEW basics, but considering she is 7 - I'm very pleased!
The Stupendous Spider and the Mocking Mouse
One blazing summer’s day a mouse was scampering through the shady woods. The reason was that Mrs. Periwinkle, the old, mean housewife, was chasing her with a wooden broom. All of a sudden she was tumbling head over heels through the thick grass. Abruptly, she was caught in a stringy spider’s web! She heard a faint whisper: “I can help you.” The fearful mouse moaned: “No, for you are just a puny spider.” The spider remarked: “We should at least try.” The spider pulled and pulled with all his might. Soon, the mouse was not stuck tight.
